Virginia Beach- Annette Gerace Hall, age 77, died at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on August 12, 2017. Annette was a fighter, battling her fourth cancer – pancreatic. Chemotherapy left her body in a weakened state, and she succumbed to heart failure.
Annette was born April 26, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY, to Frank and Helen Gerace. In her youth, Annette volunteered at Cardinal Spellman’s Servicemen’s Club, where she met Roy Edward Hall. A romance blossomed, and Annette and Roy were married on August 25, 1963.
Annette and Roy headed south to Patuxent River, MD, where Roy was stationed for two years. Roy’s next assignment was at Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach, VA, where the happy couple then decided to plant their permanent roots.
Annette juggled career and family life with skill and finesse. She quickly found employment at Oceana’s Public Affairs Office editing the base newspaper, The Jet Observer, while raising a daughter and a son. She retired after 36 years of dedicated civil service.
Annette had a number of hobbies that she enjoyed throughout the years, but her favorite pastime was undoubtedly Bingo. She was known to go several times per week, when the spirit was willing, and she would schedule special all-day Bingo excursions when vacationing in Florida with her family. Her other hobbies included Bunco, pinochle, Boggle, movies, Wii bowling and dinners with family and friends. She was also an active member of the Red Hat Society, and she served as Secretary to the Seaside Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) organization.
Annette was survived by her husband of nearly 54 years, Roy Hall; her daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Andreas Kulbe of Virginia Beach; and her son, Christopher Hall of Bristow, VA. She was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Meloni, of Staten Island, NY.
Annette was known by many as “Mrs. Wonderful” for, among other things, her compassion, love and joy. To her, life’s special moments were a reason to celebrate.
