B. Sue Crank Vaughan – Norfolk
Sue Crank Vaughan died unexpectedly on September 8, 2011 at her place of residence, Province Place of DePaul. She was born to A. Elmer and Bertie Hicks Crank on June 29, 1938. Growing up she attended Willard Elementary and graduated from Granby High School.
A job with a telephone company led her to CA where she made her home for over 51 years. During the years there, she obtained her real estate license and sold property for many years. Later she worked for the state of CA and eventually retired as a deputy commissioner. Her life was filled with raising Abyssinian cats, caring for turtles and dogs. She enjoyed writing, reading, travel, the theatre, tennis, and puttering in the garden. Sue also loved the ocean and all things related to the beach.
In October 2010 she moved to Norfolk to live near family. Surviving her are sisters June Matal Vince, Virgie Wakefield Bob and Ella Mae Jones, sisters-in-law Fran Crank, Pat Crank and Joann Crank; as well as Debby Huffman. This special aunt will be missed by nieces Rebecca Foss Gene, Ruth Ambrose Ray, Debbie Sajovitz Pete, Ela Golden, Linda Crank; nephews Paul Debbie Golden, Jay Sue Golden, Daryl Laura Golden, Eddie Maya Crank and numerous other nieces and nephews. Melissa Rufus Wofford, Luke Foss, Melinda Kacper Dubaj, Kara Foss and Zachary Foss have many treasured memories of times spent with their great-aunt. Sue was predeceased by her brothers Harold, Walton and Gene Crank.
In recent months, she attended Colonial Baptist Church. She enjoyed participating in the activities of the Union Mission Ladies’ Auxiliary.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. It will be held at Colonial Baptist Church in the Seminary Chapel located behind the church, 1222 Centerville Turnpike, Virginia Beach, VA.
