Barbara Joan Houtwed, 72, passed away June 11, 2017 in Virginia Beach leaving her family heartbroken.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Helen Shiverick; nieces, Tamara, Cheryl, Kelly Ann; nephews, Eddie, Johnny, Kenny, Keith, Michael, & Richie; great nieces and nephews; brother in laws; sister in law; and some close friends.
The family remembers Aunt Barbara as the “favorite aunt,” the nieces and nephews fought over her at times. She was described as a “giver, always helping others, loving, sweet, caring, gentle, soft spoken, quiet natured.” She will definitely be missed by all who loved her.
Barbara loved ice skating in her earlier years, also yoga, and watching tv. She was fondly remembered as a lover of coffee and sweets.
Her and her sister Helen who were only 14 months apart in age were the best of friends. Barbara loved the Lord. She worked over 20 years at IHOP, but liked to indulge in meals at the Village Inn with her sister when she was off work from IHOP.
Barbara had no children of her own but was like a second mom to her nieces and nephews, especially Kenny, who she treated like her own son.
She loved her cats, fishing, and gave the coolest gifts, always personal to each recipient. Barbara was beautiful, and so much fun.
A private memorial will be scheduled at a later date.
Cremation Society of Virginia is assisting the family. Memorial gifts to the family may be made by clicking HERE.
