Barbara J. Arnold, born on May 27, 1953, in New York City, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, in Virginia Beach at the age of 71.
Barbara dedicated her life to the service of others, having spent her career as a compassionate social worker. Her commitment to the community extended beyond her professional work, as she was deeply involved in children’s events and demonstrated unwavering support for local elementary schools. Her nurturing spirit was evident through her volunteer work with the Girl Scouts, where she served as an Assistant Leader, guiding and inspiring young girls.
A woman of many talents, Barbara found joy in arts and crafts, often creating beautiful pieces that reflected her vibrant personality. She cherished the connections she made through these interests and shared her passion generously with those around her.
In addition to her contributions to her local community, Barbara was an active member of the USCG Moms group on Facebook, where she formed lasting friendships and provided support to fellow members.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Catherine Howes, and her brother, Kenneth Howes. She is survived by her beloved husband, Dennis; her children, Matthew Arnold and his wife, Maki, and Kristina Arnold; her cherished grandchildren, Kasey and Tylor; and her sister, Kathy Giese.
Barbara’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to others will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her family takes comfort in the memories they shared and the impact she made in her community.
Private family services are currently pending, allowing those closest to her to celebrate her life in a manner that reflects the deep love and respect they hold for her.
