Betty Ann (Mansfield) Kahlert 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, February 24, 2024, in Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital.
She was born in 1941 and raised in the Atlantic City area section of Norfolk. She attended Patrick Henry and Maury High School. After high school she started working as a clerk at Roses department store on Granby Street and later at the Colley Theatre.
In 1959, at the Mercury Roller Skating Rink, she met and later married Charles (Chuck) Kahlert of Philadelphia, PA. Together they had three wonderful daughters.
In 2009, she was an active member in the Quilters Guild of Tidewater; she was also a member of the Peace Makers Quilting Group. While her children were still young, she devoted her time as a parent volunteer for the Norfolk Community Athletic Club making all the uniforms for their cheerleading squad.
She is preceded in death by four sisters, Myrtle Stone, JoAnn Neathery, Margaret Cahoon, Viola Chrystomou and two brothers Clarence D.
Mansfield, Oscar J. Mansfield Jr. as well as her step-grandson Bryan Dugan. She is survived by her husband Charles M. Kahlert of Norfolk, VA. Their three daughters Sharon Marie Dugan (Buck) of Chesapeake, VA. – Charlotte May Kahlert of Norfolk, VA, and Sandra Kahlert Borte (Derrick) of Virginia Beach, VA. Also, her seven grandchildren Jason Dugan, Justin Dugan, Brandon Dugan, Noah Herrle, Ava Borte, Ella Borte, Dashiell Borte and one Great Grandchild Jameson Bryan Dugan.
Her wishes were to be cremated and her ashes spread over the grave of her stillborn grandson Zachary Herrle at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Norfolk.
A celebration of life will be held on June 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home located at 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
