Betty Lee Sledge Pierce, 83, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2020 with her loving family all around her.
Betty was born in Rockingham County, NC in 1936. In 1953, she married Charles Pierce and raised her family of 5 children. Everyone who knew Betty loved her. She was a thoughtful, loving, selfless and caring soul who loved God and her family above all else.
Betty was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Charles Pierce; her son, David Pierce; her mother Irene Sadler; her beloved aunts, Lucille Johnson and Etheline Ingels; her father, David Sledge; and her brother, Homer Sadler.
Betty is survived by her daughter Catherine Davis (Carl) of Gloucester; her daughter Lynn Burns (Steve) of Newport News; her son Joe Pierce (Julie) of Williamsburg; and her son Kenny Pierce (Angie) of Newport News. Betty is also survived by her sister, Sue Sadler; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois Minter, Betty Hargrave, John and Jane Pierce. She is also survived by her devoted and beloved cousins and their families in South Carolina.
Betty is survived by grandchildren she loved deeply and with her whole heart- Leah Howard (Jim), Charles Thompson (Amanda), Hannah Pierce, Austin Pierce, Steven Pierce, Vanessa Grey (Wayne), Heather Norman (Brian), Ashlea Campbell (Matt) and Max Griffin; as well as her beloved great-grandchildren Jacob, Ethan, Ava, Mary, Matthew, Alyssa, Seth, Abel, Myaa, Robbie and Asa.
Betty is survived by many people she held dear and loved deeply-cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, friends and an incredible extended family.
A memorial service for Betty will be held at a later date in Newport News, Virginia.
