Betty Louise Gracey February 8, 1926 to March 16, 2011
Betty Louise Gracey passed away in Virginia Beach VA on March 16, 2011 at the Seaside Health Center in the Atlantic Shores Retirement Community where she and her husband had moved in 2001. She was born in Lewistown PA to the late Numa and Edna Whiteman on February 8, 1926.
She is survived by her daughter Susan Sakmar and her husband Michael of Daytona Beach, FL and her two nieces Richelle Demskie and Dee Ann Fisher and her nephew Jeffrey Fisher of Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jack Gracey, her sister Virginia Fisher and her first husband Miller Wisehaupt.
Her employment in banking began after her graduation from Lewistown High School in PA, continuing in Arlington, VA and San Diego County, CA. She was also in real estate with her husband at Jack Gracey Realty in CA.
After her marriage in 1951, Betty became a military wife. She began her new life, moving regularly from the east coast to the west coast and back again. She was responsible for moving and setting up a new household each time with all that entails. She was an excellent homemaker and devoted mother and wife.
She was an avid golfer and skier and also enjoyed painting with water colors.
The last 16 years of her life she suffered from the serious effects of a stroke followed by alzheimers disease. Her warm smile and kind heart always showed through in her everyday life.
Internment is at the Juniata Memorial Park in Lewistown PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the National Alzheimers Association are welcome. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cremate.org.
