Billy F. McKenzie of Williamsburg, VA passed away on May 4th after several years of declining health.
Billy was born to the late Bessie Bondurant McKenzie and Herbert Franklin McKenzie in Star, NC on September 10, 1934. He grew up in the East End of Newport News, where he developed a strong work ethic and a passion for sports at an early age. He went on to graduate from Newport News High School in 1952 and was voted “Best All Around” by his senior class. Though his almost 40 year career with C & P Telephone Co. (Bell Atlantic / Verizon) was briefly interrupted
by military service overseas, he went on to hold a number of management positions with the telephone company, working around the state of Virginia with colleagues and for a company that he truly loved.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy Harrison McKenzie, and 3 children, Keith, Julie (husband, Robbie Smith), and Jill. He was a loving and doting grandfather to McKenzie and Tate Smith.
He was predeceased by his son, Phillip McKenzie, and his sister, Dixie M. Dickenson. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, as well as his wife’s sister, Bonnie Overstreet and her husband.
A man of strong faith, Billy was for many years an active member at Williamsburg Community Chapel. He was generous to his family, charities, and those in need. Services will be private.
