Bryan Justin Thacker, a husband, father, and respected member of the Virginia community, passed away on March 19, 2025, in Virginia Beach.
A graduate of Salem High School in 1998, Bryan embarked on a fulfilling journey as a general contractor, founding Custom Contracting in 2009 alongside his best friend, Stanley Gibson. Together, they nurtured their business from its humble beginnings into a thriving enterprise that was cherished by many in the community. Bryan’s passion for his work was evident, but his greatest joy was found in being a loving father to his three wonderful children.
In 2014, Bryan married his longtime partner, Nicole Moore. Together, they built a family that became the center of his universe. Bryan adored spending time outdoors with his children, reveling in adventures of catching critters, riding bikes, snowboarding, and skateboarding. His love for nature extended to his hobbies, which included hunting and processing his own meat. An animal lover at heart, he was known for stopping to assist any creature in need, even a passing turtle.
Bryan was a man of many talents, known for his ingenuity and skill with his hands. Whether crafting new projects or preparing his well-loved biscuits and gravy, he found joy in creating and sharing with those he loved. His “uniform” of a highlighter yellow “Custom Contracting” shirt, khakis, boots, or flip-flops became a signature look that friends and family fondly remember.
Bryan is survived by his wife, Niki; his cherished children, Scarlet, Beau, and Barrett; his parents, Debra and Marshall Thacker; his mother-in-law, Kimberly Moore; his brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Rachel Thacker; his nieces, Lily and Kenzie; his grandparents, Ray and Marie Thacker; his grandfather, Wylie Rakestraw; and his beloved extended family in Arkansas and Georgia. He will be deeply missed by his business partner and best friend, Stanley Gibson, and the extensive Custom Contracting family that he held dear.
To honor Bryan’s memory, a gathering will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Family Choice Funerals and Cremations, located at 5401 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. His legacy of love, craftsmanship, and community will continue to inspire all who knew him.
