Carl Dennis Kauffman, aged 64, passed away May 10th 2024, in Virginia Beach after a 4 year battle with cancer. He was born at the old Leigh Memorial Hospital, Norfolk, VA across from the Hague. He was predeceased by his parents Helen Dillard Kauffman and Charles Richard Kauffman, sister Peggy Kauffman Morrell.
Carl, or Dennis as he was known to family and close friends, is survived by his sister, Helen “Suzi” Stevens, brother-in-law, Lewis “Steve” Stevens, nieces Mary Macdonald (Mark), Donna Fernandez (Neil), and step-niece, Rebecca Luther (Jeff). He was the proud uncle of Chase and Brendon Fernandez, and children of Rebecca, Logan and Zach Brich.
He was a graduate of Princess Anne High School class of ’78 where he was a proud member of JROTC.
Carl was an employee of the Stihl Corporation, serving almost 42 years beginning shortly after the company opened in the Virginia Beach area. A self proclaimed salesman for all Stihl products, of which he owned many and used few, was the joke of the family and neighbors.
Dennis loved celebrating Christmas. His house was a Hallmark and train wonderland, an inherited tendency from his parents. He loved visits to Ocracoke and Key West with his sister Peggy, and Corolla Beach with good friends and neighbors Lucy and Ken Caughorn and their families.
There was always the gift of music in the house, jazz becoming his favorite genre later in life. He and friends attended many concerts especially those of Genesis with Phil Collins and Jimmy Buffett. Early in life he studied piano and transitioned to guitar, being a more convenient instrument for travel.
The family wishes to thank the great care team at Virginia Beach Health & Rehab facility who cared for him in his final days.
