Virginia Beach- Carl Nelson Sutton, aged eighty-two, passed away in his home in Virginia Beach on August 14, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Baltimore, MD on April 2, 1927 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked for Exxon in Baltimore for thirty-seven years before retiring at the age of fifty-five. He lived in Baltimore until 1969 when he and his family moved to Fallston, MD. After retiring, they relocated to Cape Coral, FL where they lived for seventeen years, enjoying their home on the water, boating and fishing, the beaches and other activities with their many friends. In December 2001, Carl and his wife moved to Virginia Beach to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He is a member of the Exxon Retirement Club as well as the American Legion.
Carl is survived by his loving, devoted wife of over sixty years, Lorraine, or “Buttercup” as Carl fondly called her. He is also survived by two children: his son Stephen Sutton and wife Karen of Bayse, VA as well as his daughter Michelle Huber of Virginia Beach. He also has five grandchildren and one great grandson: Melinda Albritton, her husband, David, and son, Brendan, of Stephens City VA; Nick Huber and his wife, Corinne, of Virginia Beach but currently living in Kazakhstan; Megan Sutton, Dustin Huber and Christina Huber all of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by his sisters, Pauline Louise, Sondra, and Nina, as well as many nieces, nephews and countless friends.
He was a gentle, kind soul – a devoted family man – and was cherished and loved by all who knew him.
