Carole J. Masek passed away into Heaven on Sunday, June 25, 2023. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, one of four daughters of Gordon Jones, and graduated from St. Gregory High School in Detroit. She went on to become a Key-Punch Operator at National Bank of Detroit. She was very skilled with the typewriter and attended IBM Data Entry School, receiving her certificate in 1960.
Carole met the man she would marry, Charles “Chuck” Masek, bonding together over their love of jazz music. They could often be found together in the jazz clubs of downtown Detroit. Carole loved attending concerts and was lucky enough to have been able to see Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley live, two of her favorites. She enjoyed all kinds of music, especially Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Neil Diamond, and many more.
While in Michigan, Carole gave birth to her son, Mike, and her daughter, Michelle. After the family moved to Chesapeake, Virginia, she had her son, Charles. She attended Tidewater Community College and worked for Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a file clerk, as well as Goodwill Industries. Her hobbies included arts and crafts and cooking. She was known for her Chex Party Mix well before it was popular. She always made big batches during the holidays to give to the neighborhood kids.
Carole was very strong in her faith. She always attended church services no matter where she lived. She read her Bible and prayed on the Rosary often, knowing her faith would lead her to Heaven. She was a very kind-hearted person who would do anything to make her family and friends happy and always put others before herself, especially her children, who meant everything to her. She would attend all of her children’s events, including swim meets, concerts, Confirmations, and graduation ceremonies. Carole taught her children so many things in life: how to weather the hard times and life’s problems; how to be brave and never give up; and, most importantly, how to be independent. She will be dearly missed by Mike, Michelle, and Charles, and will be in their hearts forever.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Michael Masek, Michelle Masek, and Charles Masek; her grandchildren, Logan Burns and Keagan Masek; her sisters, Irene Melady and Delores Loftus; and all of her extended family members all over Michigan. Her friends and ayone who knew her truly know what an incredible person she was.
A service will be held in honor of Carole’s life at a later date. Please check back for service details once they are available.
