Caroline Elizabeth Dillard-Dudley entered Eternal Life on Thursday, May 30, 2013. She was born on May 9, 1936 to Sarah and James Dillard, Sr. of Petersburg, VA.
“Doll Baby” was what she was called by her family and her brothers and sisters. She was a graduate of Peabody High School in Petersburg, attended nursing school and moved to New York City, where she worked as a nurse for 33 years at Bellevue Hospital.
Ms. Caroline lived to cherish new and wonderful loving memories. She enjoyed helping people and that was why she took a job working as a hostess at the Hampton Inn.
Doll Baby is survived by two sons, Mark Dillard of Newport News and Richard Dillard of New York City; her sister, Joan Dillard of New York; three brothers, Charles Dillard of New York, Junius Jack Dillard of Maryland and Bilal Salim of Petersburg. She is also survived by her nephew, Bobby Bates and his wife, Linda of Richmond, two sisters-in-law, Doris Dillard of South Carolina and Jardell Dillard of Petersburg; daughter-in-law, Vida Dillard of Newport News; three grandchildren, Ahmaad Dillard of California, LTJG USN Ashlee J. Dillard of Japan and Markiys A. Dillard of Newport News; one great-granddaughter, Caylah Dillard of California and a host of nieces, nephews and family members.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 2, at Altmeyer Funeral Home-Riverside Chapel, 7415 River Road, Newport News, VA.
