He was born in Salem, MA October 22, 1925, joined the Navy July 1943 and retired in 1975 from the Naval Amphibious Base where he had been Executive Officer. Following his service in the navy he was employed at Maryview Hospital for six years, and then at Planmercy Research Corp until 1991. He was a graduate of Tufts University, MA and served as an elder at Bayside Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach, VA.
Carroll was predeceased by his parents, Carroll S. and Mary B. Page of Salem, his wife of 45 years, Helen Saucy, his brother Charles and son Brian. He is survived by his loving wife, Lucy Ellin, his daughters Tabor Magregor (Naorine) of Richmond, Heather Curry, grandsons James & Eric Nelson, David & Jennifer Curry; great granddaughter Alexandra Curry; his step-children Mark Weisheit; Kathy Maddon and children; and Kurt Weisheit and children; and his niece Nancy Pettingill of Richmond, CA and many other nieces and nephews. Carroll and Lucy Ellin, during their nearly 22 years of marriage, travelled to England, Scotland, Ireland, Alaska, and the Caribbean, including Aruba. They attended many ship reunions – including U.S.S. Brown and the Casa Grande.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 18th at 4:00 pm at Bayside Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bayside Presbyterian Church, 1400 Ewell Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455. Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the arrangements. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem, VA at a later date.
