Catherine M. Hale
Hampton – Catherine McDowell Hale, 80, passed into a new life on November 2, 2013, while at home with family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Newport News, Virginia, Catherine graduated from Warwick High School and attended James Madison College. She married in Newport News, and lived in Virginia, Louisiana and Mississippi before the family settled in Hampton in 1967.
She enjoyed a long career in the banking industry and retired from Bank of America in 1994. Keeping busy after retirement, she worked as assistant manager at Atlantic Self Storage, enjoying the new friends she met. She was an active member of LaCrosse Memorial Presbyterian Church for over 30 years, where she served on the Session, taught Sunday School, was a member of the women’s evening circle, sung in the church choir, and assisted with the Night’s Welcome Program. She loved staying in contact with her high school reunion group, planning and attending events with friends she kept for over 60 years.
She was an avid reader, loved to sing and play the piano, enjoyed gardening, taking beach trips to the Outer Banks, and especially spending time with family. No event was too small to celebrate. She embraced family, friends, and her Church, living life to the fullest.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Claude, and son Arthur. Left to cherish her memory are her children Claudia Joe Cosimano of Virginia Beach, Carole Vic Wieszek of Fairfax, Arch Hale of Hampton, Ted Hale Donna of Williamsburg and Diana Ravi Dhanvada of Poquoson, and grandchildren Angie Cosimano, John Katie Cosimano, Wilson Hale, Jason Natalie Wieszek, Brian Karen Wieszek, and a long list of extended family and friends.
A memorial service for Catherine Hale will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11 o’clock at LaCrosse Memorial Presbyterian Church in Hampton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the local ASPCA. Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed to www.cremate.org.
