Charles Albert Waller III known affectionately by his family and childhood friends as “Chuckie” was born on October 14, 1956 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the second of six children born to Jeanette R. Waller and the late Charles A. Waller Jr. Charles fought a several years long battle with lung cancer. He entered eternal rest on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at his home in Hampton, VA that he shared with his life partner, Antinette Grandison, their sons, Charles IV and Marice and three of his seventeen grandchildren.
Charles was educated in the Philadelphia Public School system and after high school entered the US Navy, stationed in Newport News, Virginia. Although his time in the Navy was short-lived, he chose to make his home in Virginia where he eventually met his life partner, Antinette Grandison. Charles and Antinette relocated and lived for several years in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, but eventually moved back to Virginia where he lived out the remainder of his life.
Charles’s employment history included several positions at Lowe’s hardware store including warehouse manager and floor sales; manager with Merry-Go Round Enterprises; maintenance manager and housekeeping supervisor at several hotels in Myrtle Beach, SC most notably The Landmark; hotel event space manager; shipyard worker and most recently, construction site worker with Toyano Construction Inc. of VA.
Despite living all his adult life in VA and SC, Charles was an avid Philadelphia sports fan! His favorite team which he passionately enjoyed watching was his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. He loved talking about the Eagles and had all kinds of Eagles merch from blankets to T-shirts to hats, jerseys and sneakers! In his later years, Charles was very much a “homebody” who enjoyed outdoor cooking on the grill and sitting on his patio. He enjoyed listening to all kinds of music and quizzing the family about songs and artists. Some of his favorite artists were Earth Wind and Fire, BeBe and CeCe Winans, and Kirk Franklin. Charles leaves to cherish his memory his life partner, Antinette Grandison, seven children: Nicole Waller of Philadelphia, PA; Precious Wilson of Scotland Neck, North Carolina; Dexter Waller of Mid-West City, Oklahoma; Brandon Parker (Christina) of Reedsburg, Wisconsin; Charles Waller IV of Hampton, VA; Marice Grandison of Hampton, VA; and Jasmin Waller of Charlotte, North Carolina; seventeen grandchildren; his mother, Jeanette Waller of Philadelphia, PA, her daughters: Teresa Slappy of Philadelphia, PA; Lois Wallace of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Lynda Waller- Kirby (Samuel) of New Castle, DE; Cheryl Young of Philadelphia, PA and Karen Waller-Martin (John) of Philadelphia, PA; as well as a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Charles A. Waller Jr.
