Charles “Charlie” Douglas Pate, 77, of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, at home. He is a beloved husband to Robin, brother to Jeff, father to seven children, Patrick (Kathy), Anthony (Ludmilla), Angela (Phil) Davidson, Roger (Melissa), Jonathon (Hannah), Joshua (Corin), and Jillian (Lee) Ouyang, grandfather to 16 and great-grandfather to one.
He graduated from L’Anse Creuse High School in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, and served in the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam War. Charlie was a project manager and estimator for a sheet metal fabricating company prior to purchasing the Michigan-based company in the mid-1990s.
Charlie enjoyed flexing his green thumb in the garden, his culinary skills in the kitchen, and playing golf. He could also be found engrossed in a good science fiction or history book if he wasn’t watching one of his favorite classic TV shows.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Bessie Jean, brother James, and sister Carol.
A graveside military honor service will be held on Friday, February 21,2025 at 2pm at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery located at 5310 Milners Rd in Suffolk, Virginia.
We will gather for a Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 2pm at The Rokeby Center located at 1709 Rokeby Ave. Chesapeake, Virginia.
