The most powerful memory I have of Chuck was his unique way to be generous. Chuck and my husband Tim and I are drummers who still drummed together at several events each year. Chuck sometimes attended an annual reunion of a few hundred drum & bugle corps alumni held in Binghamton, NY. It is a long weekend of social get-togethers and performances by drummers, buglers, color guards, mini corps, choruses, and skits. Basically, it is a time to flashback to our mutual youth activities in various drum & bugle corps across the United States and Canada. In 2019, Chuck understood he was facing some health issues. Although he was not feeling well often, he surprised us by wanting to attend this reunion, and he performed with several groups and even danced the night away after the banquet on Saturday evening. Chuck owned many drums including one beautifully decorated rope drum. I believe it dated back to his years when he toured Europe in the U.S. Army pipe & drum corps. While sitting on a bench in front of the Binghamton Hilton Hotel, one of the Canadian women struck up a conversation with Chuck and admired the rope drum. During the conversation and discussion of their connections to and love of our drum corps activity, Chuck gave her the rope drum. He told her to enjoy it for as long as she wanted, and to please never sell it. He asked her to pass it along when she was done with it. Certainly, the woman was shocked. That was pure Chuck! She did take the drum after his insistence, and we never found out who she was. When the Canadian bus left the hotel for their trip back to Canada, Chuck's drum was packed onboard. Most of us figured out later that this last appearance was Chuck’s goodbye to all his friends in this drum corps activity. Under all his bluster, Chuck was a kind and thoughtful man. We will miss you, Chuck. You made a good difference in this world.

I will certainly miss you, the time we spent together was wonderful while it lasted. When you were diagnosed, you decided I could not go through that again, so you moved to your sister's. I am grateful, that you went peacefully. But when you meet St. Peter "Hello" might be better than your usual "Howdy"...........You are in my heart forever

I have so many memories of my good friend Chuck. On the Drum Corps side, he had one of the tightest rolls. He and Chew both get my vote. I only have to look around our house to see my lasting memories of Chuck remembering when we re tiled the front porch entrance, the new downstairs bathroom fixtures we installed, the concrete slab we put down in the shed will all be everlasting memories of Chuck. So many other times and so many other stories to be remembered. Thanks Chuck Dohn for being my friend.
