With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Charles Madison Monroe, Jr. affectionally known to many as “Baby Boy”, who departed this life on March 1, 2025, in Newport News, Virginia.
Born in Mathews, Virginia, Charles was the beloved son of Mary Monroe and Charles M. Monroe, Sr. A dedicated truck driver, Charles worked tirelessly to provide for his family and was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to those he loved. Beyond his profession, he was a man of many passions—an avid baseball fan, a skilled billiards player, and a devoted follower of Earth, Wind &; Fire and the Dallas Cowboys. His love for sports and music brought joy to those around him and created lasting memories.
A Legacy of Love
Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Monroe; father, Charles Monroe Sr.; sister, Edith Thornton; daughter, Dorothy “LuLu” Forrest; and granddaughter, LaTonya Foster. He leaves behind a cherished legacy and is survived by his loving wife, Kristie Monroe, and his devoted children: daughters Sonya “Lisa” Smith (Ronald), Victoria Hampton (Brian), and Michelle Shieler (Edward); sons Vernon “Jerry” Monroe (Melanie) and Charles Monroe III (Shamika). He was a proud grandfather to Ronice Etheridge, Kevin Foster Jr., Ronald Smith Jr., Tiffany Smith, JaMonte Smith, Ashley Harter, Blake Hampton, Shakila Ward, Sylvia Monroe, Jarius Monroe, Shane Lee, Breanna Jarvis, Nicholas Shieler, Emily Porras, Charles “CJ” Shieler, LaToya Monroe, Tiwann Forrest Jr., RaShawn Harris, Bryce Monroe, and Landon Monroe. He is also survived by his beloved aunt Beatrice Lee; uncles Robert Ware and Landin “Lane” Ware; and nieces Renee Peace and Brenda Thornton, along with many great-grandchildren, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
We will forever carry Charles in our hearts and honor his memory by remembering the love, laughter, and moments we shared with him.
Celebrating His Life
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 3:00pm, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 12893 Jefferson Ave, Newport News, VA 23608.
