Charles Stenger, 77, owner of Samurai Inc., LLC, passed away on March 29, 2025, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after bravely battling fungal meningitis.
Born April 23, 1947, in Midland, MI, Charles was the eldest of eight children of George and June (Bernard) Stenger. He grew up in Beaverton, MI, and went on to serve a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy. Known for his strength, leadership, and dedication, Charles retired in 1990, as a Master Chief Boatswain Mate, earning numerous commendations and medals along the way.
Following his military service, Charles settled in Williamsburg, VA, where he launched his first business. In 1995, he moved to Norfolk, VA, and after gaining business experience, founded Samurai Inc., LLC, a successful painting and home remodeling company that served the Hampton Roads area for decades. A lifelong learner, he also completed four years of study at Norfolk State University.
Charles had a deep passion for personal growth and found a lasting calling through his work with Landmark Worldwide, a personal development company. There, he took courses and coached participants around the world, helping many transform their lives.
It was at Landmark that Charles met Nancy S. Huddleston. United by their shared dream of building a family, they married in 1999 in Buffalo, NY. They were blessed with fraternal twins, Maxwell and Jackson, in May 2006. A devoted father, Charles raised his boys with integrity and love and took great pride in watching them grow into kind, capable young men.
He held his eldest son from his first marriage to Pamela Sharp of Grand Rapids, MI, Ronald D. Stenger, 55 (Li Jett) of San Antonio, TX, in the highest regard. Ron is Director, Business Development T3i, Inc., and served with distinction in the Air Force Special Tactics, retiring as Colonel, USAF. Through Ron’s first marriage to Laura Stenger, Charles became a grandfather to three wonderful grandchildren: Michael D. Stenger (30), Matthew D. Stenger (28), and Melissa D. Stenger (24).
In addition to his work and family, Charles loved planting and eating vegetables from his garden and was a passionate Formula One fan. He cared deeply for his animals: a dog, cat, chicken, and conure, who also miss him.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara (Skip) Darnell. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his sons, Max, Jack, and Ron; his grandchildren; and his siblings— John (Darlene) Stenger, George (Micky) Stenger, Kenny (Betty) Stenger, Mary Stenger, Cheryl Stenger, and Kathy Howell—whose lives were touched by his.
