Norfolk – Charlotte “Diane” Dumont, 54, passed away on March 25, 2014. Diane was born on a military base in Japan to the late Billy and Brenda Coleman Metcalf. She lived in many locations throughout the country and the world, eventually returning to the Norfolk area where she had spent part of her teenage years.
Diane had a variety of occupations during her life, but she regarded raising her children to be her greatest purpose. Her beauty, grace and vibrant presence affected everyone who knew her. Diane loved unconditionally and protected those she loved fiercely.
Diane’s passing will leave a void in the lives of her husband of 22 years, Steve; son, Matthew Fetsch; daughter, Meagan Fetsch; Stewart Elkins, who she embraced as a son; sisters, Cathy Adams and Lynn Rudning; parents-in-law, Betty and John Corcoran; brother-in-law, Chuck Dumont; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd., Va Bch, VA 23462 on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 3pm with a visitation at 2pm. Those who wish to make a donation, in lieu of flowers donations may be sent to a charity of one’s choice in her name. Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the arrangements. We have very fond memories of vacationing with the two of you. She seemed quite content to lay on the beach with a good book, and I think grace describes her well. A gentle, caring, grace, combined with a lively spirit. She was fun and will be sorely missed. We cherish our time with her and she was so good with our young daughter. We love how Diane took the time to do the little things with her, like make sand castles or engage in a conversation. Our daughter's reaction was like the rest us, grief stricken and she wanted to see her again. When she was told that Diane was ready to be with God and that she was not worried about herself, but thought of Steve, she seemed to find comfort. Less than a day before she passed, Diane said Steve needs help, help Steve. This gives our daughter a sense of purpose and comfort at the same time. Not surprising to know that she was thinking of Steve, not of herself. Godspeed Diane.

Our daughter's reaction was like the rest us, grief stricken and she wanted to see her again. When she was told that Diane was ready to be with God and that she was not worried about herself, but thought of Steve, she seemed to find comfort. Less than a day before she passed, Diane said Steve needs help, help Steve. This gives our daughter a sense of purpose and comfort at the same time. Not surprising to know that she was thinking of Steve, not of herself. Godspeed Diane.
