Cheryl “Cheri Shalene Swoope” Taylor
NORFOLK – Cheryl “Cheri” Shalene Swoope Taylor, 51 of the 4900 block of Cape Henry Ave. ended her courageous battle with cystic fibrosis on Friday, September 10, 2010. Born in California, she came to Norfolk as a toddler and was raised in Kempsville. Cheri was a successful & respected Realtor since 1983. She was a member of the “Million Dollar Sales Club” and won many awards, including “Listing Agent of the Year”. She is survived by her loving husband Bill; guardian child Christina; caring & supportive parents Charlie & Mary Swoope of Virginia Beach; her very close sister Cindy Swoope of Kill Devil Hills, NC; her brothers Charlie Jr. and Bobby and a host of family & friends who she adored. Her smile will always be with us. She loved God and all of his creatures, especially her dog Bunky. She loved people and held a special place for all animals and children. She was a mentor to an at risk 10 yr. old girl. She was the former President of The Fox Hall Civic League spearheading drives to improve her neighborhood and fight crime. Cheri lived a full and active life enjoying sailing, games, cooking, theater, flowers, birds, dancing, white water rafting, feeding the homeless & volunteering at her church. She loved to give. A memorial service celebrating her life will be conducted by Fr John Baldwin at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 5181 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach at 2:00 on Friday, September 17. Memorial donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Virginia or the SPCA. Cremation Society of Virginia is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cremate.org.
