Yorktown – Mrs. Chong-Suk Kinney (nee Park), 67, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on February 22, 2023. She passed away with her family by her side. She was born in Taegu, South Korea to her parents, Park Yong-Sin and Kim Pong-Nam. She was preceded in death by her older brother, Park Chung-Ung. A superior student, she graduated as the valedictorian at the Taegu Girl’s High School in 1973. She met and married her husband James at Osan Air Base, South Korea in 1978. She became a US citizen in 1979. She was a strong military spouse. She accompanied her husband and later her family on Air Force assignments to the Presidio of Monterey, California; Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan; Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, DC; Fort Meade, Maryland; four times back to Osan Air Base; and finally, to Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. She had a 16-year career as a banking teller and as a Customer Service Representative Supervisor at the bank on Osan Air Base, South Korea and at Tower Federal Credit Union at the National Security Agency, Fort Meade, Maryland. She was an active member at Bethel Baptist Church, Yorktown, serving her Lord Jesus in Bethel’s Women’s Ministry and on the Greeter Team Ministry. Her bright smile and her cheerful countenance brightened the hallways at Bethel Baptist Church on Sundays. She was an avid sports fan, supporting United States and South Korean national and Olympic teams, as well as the football and basketball teams at Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia. She always enjoyed cooking Korean meals for her family and friends at her home in Yorktown. She cherished her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, James of 44 years; daughter, Abigail and son-in-law, Matthew; son, Andrew and daughter-in-law, Mariel; daughter, Diana and son-in-law, Joseph; and grandsons, Aiden, Rafael, and Andrew, Jr. She is also survived by her sisters in South Korea, Park Chong-Hui, Park Yong-Ja, Park Yong-Suk; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Riverside Hospital (Newport News) and at Riverside Rehabilitation Hospital (Yorktown) for the loving and professional care they provided to Chong-Suk over the past year.
