Cindy Smith, of Virginia Beach, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018 after a brief period of illness. Cindy was the loving wife of Jim for 46 years. Cindy was born in Norfolk and moved regularly with her Navy parents, Reba & Mac McPeek. She attended 9 schools over 12 years in several countries, with Spain and Bermuda being her favorites. Moving suited her well, as she never met a stranger, quickly making friends everywhere she went. She attended Granby High School before graduating from Norview in 1969. She earned a Bachelor of Secondary Education from Old Dominion University. In her early career, Cindy worked for The Jacques Cousteau Society and traveled to South America assisting with the creation of his Amazon film series and books. In recent years, she taught business and computing at Green Run High School, retiring in 2017. She enjoyed her role in the Scholarship Committee Team for Virginia Beach City Public Schools and the Future Business Leaders of America. She selflessly devoted herself to teaching for 17 years, rising early every day to bring unparalleled positive energy to her classroom. She cared deeply for her family, best expressed through her warm holiday celebrations and phenomenal meals. The memory of Cindy and her irreplaceable, uplifting spirit will be cherished by her husband, Jim; her two boys, Ryan and Thane; their wives, Shea and Sarah; and her three grandchildren, Ellie, Ronan and Nolan.
