Cynthia Funk passed away on November 17, 2024 at home. Cynthia was born in Norwalk CT to Charles and Alma Funk JR in 1941. She graduated from UConn, NYU and Norfolk State University with an MSW.
Cynthia was involved with the Women’s Liberation movement in New York, as a member of the New York Radical Women, W.I.T.C.H. and Lavender Menace. She taught English and spent a year in Paris teaching English as a second language. She formed the Women’s Painting Crew, was the proprietor of a women’s craft store – Moonworks, a founder of Hospice of the Eastern Shore, and instrumental in bringing a women’s shelter to Accomack County. She worked as a Social Work Supervisor in Accomack, Hampton Social Services, Navy Family Social Services and in private practice. She was also a Pastor at The Fellowship of the Inner Light.
She loved the ocean, beach, gardening and reading.
In addition to being predeceased by her parents, Cynthia was predeceased by her brother Charles E Funk III, sister-in-law Francis Funk, brothers-in-law: Robert Sawyer and James Kuhagen.
Left to cherish her memory are her partner Janice Kuhagen, daughter Diana Jabbour (Chris Council), sister Dency Sargent, nieces: Cathy Sargent (son Jasper), Victoria Kuhagen, nephews: Charles E Funk IV (Rachael), Benjamin Funk (Lorrie), Zachary Kuhagen, their families, and her loving friends Mary, Jane and Nancy.
Her loved ones would like to thank the hospice nurses and caregivers at Westminster Canterbury at Home Hospice that were present for us.
A remembrance for Cynthia will be held at a future date in the new year.
