Our beloved mother, Cynthia Lee Link, passed away on November 2, 2024. Cindy, as she was known by friends and family, was born to Milford Frank Cox and Madeline Irma McCombs. Cindy is survived by two sisters, Cherrie and Candy, and a brother, Ricky. The family lived on Somerville Drive in Hampton, VA. Cindy graduated from Kecoughtan High School, later living in the Buckroe Beach and Phoebus areas of Hampton, and making many friends along the way. She was the life of any party, very independent, and always worked hard to take care of her family. Cindy worked at many places to make ends meet—Newport News Shipbuilding, as well as the NCO Club on Langley Air Force Base to name a few—and even joined the crew of a scallop boat, traveling the waters off the coast of Massachusetts as a cook. She found work at the Elks Lodge, Hampton Moose Lodge, and the American Legion as Bar Manager. At the Dominion Village in Poquoson, Cindy started off as a dietary aide, later moving up to cook and nurse aide; she worked in the laundry department and finally as Activities Director.
Cindy loved helping the elderly and those in need, becoming a caregiver to the loved ones of appreciative families. She loved getting some sun at a pool or the beach—especially while vacationing on Ocracoke Island in North Carolina—but she loved spending time with friends and family most of all. She is survived by her son, Dakota, her daughter, Charissa, and three grandchildren, who will always have fond memories of her at birthdays and the holidays. A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2025 at Gosnold Hope Park in Hampton. An announcement will be made via Facebook. The family will gather privately to spread her ashes.
