Dana W. Hutchens – Virginia Beach
Dana William Hutchens, 66, of Virginia Beach, VA died August 1, 2011, surrounded by his family. Born in Covington, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Arthur and Helen Hutchens. He was predeceased by siblings, Mike, Patsy, and Tim Hutchens. Dana was a quiet example of gentle kindness in action to friend and stranger alike. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife of 41 years, Susan Hutchens, his daughter, Juliet Hutchens of Virginia Beach, his son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Haydee Hutchens of Morehead City, North Carolina, and his granddaughters, Elly & Abby, whom he adored. A Vietnam Veteran, Dana proudly served 8 years as a SeaBee in the United States Navy. During the course of his career, he supervised and inspected numerous renovation projects for Yorktown Naval Weapons Station and Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. He most recently loved his work with the Navy in waterfront pier redevelopment as a civil servant at Norfolk Naval Base. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital Community for their excellent care of Dana during his final days and hours. A celebration of his life will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 2208 Princess Anne Rd., Virginia Beach.
