DAVID EUGENE GAUTHIER
October 30, 1952-June 29, 2023
David Eugene Gauthier passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 29, 2023. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Norma Louise Gauthier; sons, David Lee Gauthier (spouse, Amanda), and Duane Emerson Gauthier (spouse, Jennifer). Dave is also survived by his sister, Dannette “Sis” Gauthier; nieces, Dayna, Dawnie, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. His legacy lives on through his greatest pride and joy, his grandchildren; Izzy, Austin, Gavin, Chase, Noah, and Joshua who meant the world to their papa hon. He was proceeded in death and welcomed home by parents, Eugene and Jeanette Gauthier; and brothers, Don, Darrelle, Doug, and Derek “Jake”.
Dave served honorably in the United States Navy for 22 years aboard several Nuclear Submarines as aMM1 and was deployed many times throughout his career. Following retirement from the USN in 1993, Dave worked in management for HII Newport News Shipbuilding for 26 years until his retirement in December 2019.
Dave’s dedication to duty for both the Navy and Shipyard never interfered with the priorities of his family. While his children were young, he enjoyed coaching football and serving as their boy scout leader. He loved spending time teaching his boys about woodworking and cars. Dave’s greatest joy was time spent camping with his family. He created many memories and teachable moments from the primitive tent camping days with his sons, to the more luxurious camping experiences he provided for his grandchildren. His grandchildren will never forget all the laughter and memories made while sitting on papa hon’s lap driving the golf cart, roasting smores, malts and chips, swimming, playing in the sand box, watching movies and going to the camp store. All these memories will live on forever!
One thing that was evident above all was the unwavering and unconditional love he had for his wife, Norma. He set the example of what true love is in a marriage.
Thank you for being the best husband, father, papa hon, brother, uncle, friend and role model we could have asked for. You will forever be missed, and your memory will last our lifetime! Rest easy, until we meet again.
We love you.
There will be no public service, but a private gathering will be held for the immediate family.
Arrangements in care of Cremation Society of Virginia – Newport News Office.
