David Patten Bliss Elswick, Sr.,77, of Yorktown, went to be with the Lord on Saturday August 26th, 2023, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born in Bandy, Virginia to the late Rev. Paul Milford Elswick and Nellie Mae. He leaves behind his beloved wife of thirty-eight years, Margaret Ann Elswick, and five children; Charles Darin Elswick (Amy Estabrook), David Bliss Elswick Jr. (Aimee), Dallas Paul Elswick (Nicole), Charity Ann Barrett, and Melissa Alison Warrick (Ryan Taylor Warrick); ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren, one sister, Nita Harp, one nephew and two nieces, along with great nephews and nieces.
Together he and his wife, Margaret, ran D.B Elswick Construction Co Inc. for over thirty-eight years. Dave’s family was most important to him and came first. The thing about it was, to Dave, everyone was family, he never met a stranger or ever turned his back on anyone in need. He lived his life to the fullest and was the very definition of, work hard, play harder. To know him, was to love him. His sense of humor was unmatched. He was larger than life in everything he did, always the life of the party. Most anyone who has met him has a Big Dave story to tell. He enjoyed camping, Nascar, watching football, road trips and spending time around a bonfire with his family and friends.
His grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He loved teaching them how to change a tire or plant vegetables in the garden. Dave was a big kid at heart & worked his whole life to create a home so special, not even the grandkids wanted to leave. They say the way to determine a man’s success is when the kids are grown, and they still want to come home. Dave was the richest man alive, not a single day went by when his kids, grandkids or great grand kids weren’t visiting.
There are special people in our lives who never leave us, even after they’re gone. David Patten Bliss Elswick Sr. is definitely one of those special people.
A Celebration of Life will be held 3:00pm, Saturday, September 9th, 2023, at 412 Old Wormley Creek Road, Yorktown, VA. 23692. Reception to follow filled with food, refreshments, a special musical performance & a video tribute. Dave wasn’t a suit & tie kind of guy, so we hope you’ll keep it casual too. Much like Dave, this celebration service will be as unique & memorable as him. A life well-lived deserves to be celebrated, and that’s exactly what we are going to do.
