David Wolford Duke, born on September 18, nineteen hundred and thirty-eight, (if you know, you know), in Norfolk, VA, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, in Chesapeake, VA, at the age of 86.
David was a dedicated salesman in the insurance industry and proudly served as a Marine Corps Reservist. He had a zest for life and a myriad of interests that kept him engaged and connected with those around him. He was known for his love of tennis and was also an avid Washington Commanders fan, passionately supporting his team through every season. A history buff at heart, David enjoyed storytelling, sharing his knowledge and captivating audiences with tales of the past.
In addition to his many hobbies, David delighted in going to casinos, where he embraced the thrill of chance and luck. Family meant everything to him, and he cherished spending time on family vacations and cruises, creating lasting memories with those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 58 years, Patricia Marie Duke; his mother and stepfather, Iona and Arnold Aldridge; his father, Thomas G. Duke and his brother, Tom Duke.
David is survived by his two children, Mary Daniel (Dan) and Terri Knowles (Andy); his six beloved grandchildren, Shawn, Amber, Josh, Tiffany, Ryan and Cory; his sister, Joy Aldridge (David); eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, services will be private, allowing those closest to him to honor and remember David in their own special ways.
