Deborah “Debbie” Kaye (Taylor) Porter entered Heaven on December 5, 2023 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center in Chesapeake, Virginia. She was born November 2, 1946 in West Newton, Pennsylvania. Deborah was one of two children born to her father, Orvie Taylor, and mother, Josephine Penny Markle Taylor.
Deborah was a graduate of West Newton High School in Pennsylvania. She received both her bachelor’s degree in education and master’s degree in counseling from Slippery Rock University in western Pennsylvania.
Debbie and her husband Lee were both swept off their respective feet when they met in 1968. During the 53 years of marriage to Pastor Lee Porter, Debbie evangelized in 19 countries and 42 states. She had such a deep love for Jesus Christ. Her zeal, passion and heartfelt desire to share Jesus with the world was next to none. Debbie’s knowledge and use of God’s Word to others was an example beyond measure. I’m not sure if Heaven was really prepared for the entrance of such an Exhorter.
Deborah was preceded in death by both her parents, Orvie Taylor and Josephine Penny Markle Taylor, as well as her younger brother, Gerald Edgar Taylor. She is also preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Shirley and husband Wally Koerbel, and many loving aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.
Deborah is survived by her loving husband, Pastor Lee Porter; loving son, Jerry and daughter-in-law, Wendi; grandchildren: Benjamin, Eva, and Zane; sister-in-law, Dee Dee Taylor, and her children: Donna Jo, Debbie (Eric), David (Tina) and their families; the children of deceased sister-in-law, Shirley and Wally Koerbel: Lynn (Annie), Elaine (Randy), Tami (Rick) and their families; brother-in-law, Larry and Vivian Porter and previous wife, Maryann Porter, and their shared children: Lawrence (Kim), Rebecca (David) and their families; brother-in-law, Glen and Joan Porter and their children: Scotty, Rachel (Chuck), Rick (Linda) and their families.
A memorial service will be held on January 6, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. The service will be held at New Life/Big House Church located at 1420 Colonial Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia 23517. There will be a covered dish directly following the service. Bring your best dish; Debbie would be so proud of each of you! The Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the arrangements. All condolences or special messages can be left at www.vacremationsociety.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to www.ICEJ.org. This is the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem. Debbie always felt lead to pray and support Jerusalem. Any donations made in lieu of flowers on behalf of Deborah Porter would be a blessing and a great way to honor the heart she had for Israel.
