Debra Moore Riesbeck was a caring wife, mom, grandma, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She left this world too early after a brief battle with cancer on October 25, 2023 in her hometown of Newport News, Virginia.
Debbie loved her family and friends, always putting others first. She never missed a birthday card or an opportunity to bake you chocolate chip cookies. She made sure that everyone around her felt special and loved. Debbie spent over 30 years as a Sunday School teacher at Hilton Baptist Church. Her themed decorations for Vacation Bible School were legendary and her artistry knew no bounds. She was a lover of history and served as a costumed interpreter at Jamestown Settlement after raising her two daughters. Debbie enjoyed being outdoors working in her yard, reading a book on the beach, playing with her grandkids, or basking in the moonlight. Every Halloween Debbie dressed as a witch with Alfred the Spider hanging from her hat and an eerily natural ability to cackle.
Debbie’s love, faith, and friendship will be sorely missed. If you would like to honor Debbie, we encourage you to plant a tree, volunteer with kids, or bake a batch of cookies for someone who needs some TLC. Her life will be celebrated with friends and family on Sunday, November 5.
