Virginia Beach, VA – Diana Lynn Pagona, 70, of Virginia Beach, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, after a courageous 16-year battle with cancer. Born on April 9, 1954, in New Britain, Connecticut, Diana was a woman of remarkable strength, unwavering resilience, and a heart that welcomed all.
She is survived by her devoted husband, John Leroy Pagona Jr., with whom she shared 28 beautiful years—24 of them in marriage. Their love story began with a first kiss in 1997, blossoming into a partnership built on deep love and steadfast support. As the proud wife of a U.S. Navy man, Diana embraced the military life wholeheartedly, earning the admiration of fellow Navy wives for her warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit.
An extrovert through and through, Diana thrived in the company of others. She found immense joy in entertaining, connecting with people, and making those around her feel valued. Her passion for serving others extended into her career as a juvenile probation officer, where she made a lasting impact on countless young lives. Her dedication and excellence in her field were recognized with numerous awards and commendations.
Despite the challenges she faced—paralysis from her cancer treatments among them—Diana remained fiercely active, refusing to let adversity define her. She was a fighter in every sense, embodying perseverance and courage until the very end.
In addition to her husband, Diana is survived by her children, Raymond (Melissa) Olsen of Norfolk, VA; Kelley (Justin) Baummer of Suffolk, VA; Mark (Nicole) Bragdon of Suffolk, VA; Tony Pagona of Manassas, VA; and Amanda Pagona of Chesapeake, VA. She also leaves behind her sisters, Linda Trindade of Milford, CT, and Carolann Fosse of Haddam, CT. Diana was a proud grandmother to Buddy Scarborough, Cameron Scarborough, AJ Olsen, Devon Baummer, Emma Baummer, Noah Bragdon, Ella Bragdon, Tazjiona Smith, and Amira Keeton.
Diana will be remembered for her boundless energy, her infectious laughter, and the love she shared so freely. Her legacy of strength and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Diana’s life will be held on Monday, March 10th, at 1:00 PM, with a reception immediately following. Both events will take place at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, located at 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
