Miriam “Dina” Gimenez – Alfonso, 86, resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia – passed away on Thursday January 16, 2025. Born on December 6, 1938, to Estrella and Juan Gimenez in the Bronx, New York, she became the youngest of 8 siblings. There, her deep-rooted love for family began. She very much loved and shared many stories about life with her siblings, Louie, David, Johnny, Sarah, Adele “Deli”, Ester, Anna, and Emily.
She met Eugene Alfonso at an ice cream parlor one night while she was a teen. She married him and started a family of her own. She was a very creative home maker, and became an incredible cook, and gardener.
While raising 4 sons, she made time to learn and work in dentistry, parts of the medical field, even becoming a hairstylist. Later, she studied various topics at Tidewater Community College.
Dina was a woman of deep faith and had an undying love for God. It served as strength and guidance in her life. It most importantly, gave her and her husband hope that one day, they would spend eternity with family and loved ones once again.
Dina and Gene Sr were preceded in passing by their eldest Sons: Gene – “Gino” Alfonso Jr, and Andrew Alfonso. They are survived by their loving sons Eric Alfonso of Phoenix, AZ, and Jesse Alfonso of Atlanta, GA. Dina is also survived by a special family member.
By blood Dina called Helen her niece. However, Helen made a wish Dina always had come true. Helen cared for her Ti Ti Dina assisting tirelessly with her medical needs and affairs. She kept Dina company during what were her most challenging of times.
Mrs. Helen Velez of Virginia Beach became the daughter Dina always wanted. Eric and Jesse would be remiss should they not express their deepest love and gratitude to their big sister. Thank you, Helen, Hiram, Luisa and Liz.
Survived by Dina are her grandchildren: Christina Alfonso of NY, Adam Alfonso of Phoenix, AZ, Austin Alfonso of Phoenix, AZ, and Dina’s precious Great-Grandson, Luca Alfonso of Phoenix, AZ.
