Dorothy Copeland Fremd
VIRGINIA BEACH – Dorothy (Dot) Copeland Fremd, 95, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend died peacefully at her home November 11,2024 surrounded by her family. Born October 30,1929 in Greensboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late Broadie and Decima Teague Copeland. She was also predeceased by her husband, Retired CDR Harry Fremd; brothers Broadie and Raymond Copeland; and daughter-in-law Shirley Fremd. She is survived by six children: sons, Harry L. “Skip” Fremd II, Karl G. Fremd and Raymond V. “Buddy” Fremd (Donna); and daughters, Kristina “Tina” Ary (Michael), Theresa “Teri” Ziegler (Paul) and Wendy Langley; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Dot graduated from the University of North Carolina Women’s College at Greensboro. She was also a life member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and drove many miles in Virginia and North Carolina picking up and delivering blood as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. A longtime member of Old Donation Episcopal Church, she served on its altar guild and in other capacities over the years.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 5th, at 1:30 p.m. at Old Donation Episcopal Church, 4449 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455 with a reception following in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Discretionary Fund of Old Donation Episcopal Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
