CHESAPEAKE – Dorothy Gentle Penley or “Dottie” as she was best known, died peacefully at home on January 31, 2018. She was 91 years young. Dottie was the only child of the late Lonnie Gentle and Ida McCreary Gentle of Salisbury, North Carolina. She was a hairdresser, seamstress, homemaker, Navy wife, friend, and good neighbor. She embraced life with true grit, creativity and enthusiasm.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dalvin Ray Penley, Sr. She is survived by her daughter Sherry Leigh Penley; her son Dalvin Ray Penley, Jr. or “Buster”; her grandson Connor Ray Penley; her granddaughter Cassidy Elizabeth Penley; and many cousins.
Per her wishes there will be no memorial service. Her ashes will be spread in her native Salisbury.
