Virginia Beach – Dorothy “Dot” Ashbury Hopper, 87, of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 19, 2016. Mrs. Hopper was born on April 5, 1929 in “Newtown” Portsmouth, Va. She was a long time member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edgar Hopper, Sr. and daughters Dottie Ann Dunston of Hawaii and Mary Pamela “Pam” Wagner of Colorado; sister’s Gertrude “Gert” Sullivan and Imelda “Patsy” Cowan and brother William A. “Bill” Ashbury.
Left to cherish her memory are sons, James Edgar “Jimmy” Hopper, Jr. (Sheri) of Nevada, Michael Keith Hopper (Sharon) and David Austill Hopper (Terri); daughters, Theresa Lynn Zadai (Mike) and Allyson Hopper Gregg (Paul) all of Virginia Beach; son-in-law, Michael Wagner of Colorado; 21 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Hopper retired in June 1986, after 15 years of service with Virginia Beach Public Schools. She dedicated many years of her life giving to others. She volunteered over 25 years with the American Red Cross, Tidewater Chapter. She devoted over 30 years to serving at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church teaching Sunday School and visiting those in need at Marion Manor and Our Lady of Perpetual Help. She loved and cherished her family, especially her 21 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
The family will be receiving friends at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 4560 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, Monday, November 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. A mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, Tuesday, November 29, at 11 a.m. Graveside burial will be private.

The family would like to thank all of her caregivers over the past 7 years from Marian Manor, Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Sentara Hospice House. She was loved and cared for dearly by all.
