Doug was a driver of events just like his father, Ed. Doug’s out-sized personality influenced the folks around him for the better. I wish his wife Mary my condolences and know that his death will leave a hole in her life that will be impossible to fill. I am deeply saddened.

Bernhard Mecking left a message on November 27, 2024:
Dear Mary and Family! Douglas Tilles joined CEBAF (now Jefferson Lab) in 1986 as one of the first technicians of the Hall B group, the team that had been charged with the design and construction of the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer, CLAS. Capitalizing on his prior experience with the United States Navy, Doug was made responsible for all movements of equipment (small or large) into or out of the hall. His responsibilities also included coordinating the mounting of large-size detector components to their appropriate resting places and the maintenance of the Hall B infrastructure. Doug did a great job fulfilling his responsibilities. He had a good working relationship with both in-house colleagues and outside collaborators. He will be remembered, and he will be missed. Bernhard A. Mecking Hall B Project Manager (retired)
