Dr. Emmette Charles Skinner, Jr.
Dr. Emmette Charles Skinner, Jr. passed on Monday, September 21st at his home in Virginia Beach. He was 79 years young. He was the second child of Emmette Charles Skinner, Sr. and Lily Parker Skinner of Suffolk, Virginia.
Dr. Skinner was a graduate of Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1953, with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served his country in the United States Army Corps of Engineers where he was a pilot of both light aircraft and helicopters.
Dr. Skinner was a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry, Class of 1963 and practiced dentistry in Virginia Beach until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the American, Virginia and Tidewater Dental Associations and the Virginia Beach Dental Study Club. He was a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge 275, the Kiwanis Beachcombers and was a past president of the Virginia Beach Jaycees. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Princess Anne Country Club. He was a devoted member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church since 1964.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Peggy; son, C. Keith Skinner Miriam of Wilmington, North Carolina; daughter, Margaret S. McLaughlin Douglas of Basalt, Colorado; granddaughters, Lindsey McLaughlin and Erin Kimmer Michael; sister, Beverly S. Smeltzer John; brother, Robert W. Skinner Margaret. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Charles Parker Skinner.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 30 at 11:00am at Francis Asbury Methodist Church 1871 Great Neck Road, Va.Beach, Virginia 23454. A reception will follow in the church social hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the �Memorial Fund� of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church.
