Dr. John B. Myers died at Hospice House on May 31, 2013. He was born in Yadkin County, NC. He received his B.S. from the University of Virginia in 1955 and his M.D. in 1959. He interned at Norfolk General Hospital and won the Meade Johnson Fellowship for a general medicine residency. He practiced medicine in South Norfolk for 34 years with W. Stanley Jennings. From 1967 to 1969 he served in the U.S. Army Corp in Viet Nam and Fort Story.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, June Hodges Myers; sons Dr. Hunter Myers and John Patrick Myers, daughter Laurie Myers Stewart and their spouses; brother George Patrick Myers, sister Jane Myers Maupin and their spouses. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 12 nieces and nephews, and several cousins. Dr. Myers enjoyed his family, his garden, fishing and contract bridge.
A memorial service is planned at Baylake United Methodist Church for Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be donated to Baylake or the charity of your choice.
