Edna Rebecca (Becky) Stanfield Handy, age 76, passed away in the early hours Sunday morning, 9/15/24, after a sudden and short illness. Becky was born in Alabama and the family moved to Newport News when she was 4 and has lived in Newport News and Hampton since, except for a couple of years each, in Vermont and Florida.
Ms. Handy was preceded in death by her Mother, Ruth Stanfield, and stepdad, Horace Stanfield. She is survived by her Daughter, Kim Boone and Husband, Bill, Daughter Michele Handy, Beloved Grandson Steven Handy, Great Granddaughter Willow, her 2 cats, Lizzie and Lucy, and many extended family members, loved ones and friends.
Becky graduated from Warwick High School in 1965. She was married to Steve Handy for 10 years and subsequently raised her 2 daughters by herself. She was employed by the VA Medical Center in Hampton for 17 years as an Administrative Assistant, then continued her career in the medical field as a Medical Transcriptionist, with 24 years working from home. She retired in 2022. Becky was an avid softball player in her younger years. She played for 14 years and was an assistant coach for 2 years. Becky lived a very fun life, enjoying her family and friends. She loved the beach, growing up going to Buckroe Beach, vacationing in The Outer Banks her whole life… lots of fun, crazy stories and memories.
The family wants to thank Sentara nursing staff. There are some amazing people there that showed compassion and friendship for Mom during her long stay. We also want to send love and thanks to all of the family and friends that have reached out. We are very thankful and appreciative of your support and love during this difficult time.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on October 5, 2024, at Mugzy’s Warehouse, 1312 E Pembroke Ave, Hampton, from 4-10pm.
