Eduardo “Ed” A. Ongcol, 61, returned to his heavenly home on February 22, 2020 in Newport News, Virginia. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle with his short-lived illness and ultimately gave him peace.
Ed was born to the late Raphael and Isabel Ongcol in the Philippines on October 13, 1958. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose; his son, Earl; his daughter, Genei; and several extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
Coming from humble beginnings, Ed was influential to many who were lucky enough to know him. He worked hard to achieve educationally, and sacrificed much to provide for his family. Ed was an educator at heart, teaching for several years in the Philippines and in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. He was passionate about the value of education, and served as a pillar of encouragement and inspiration to those following in his path.
Ed was deeply passionate about serving the Lord. He was a devout Christian who instilled the Love of God and neighbors into his children. He sang in the Choir at Liberty Baptist Church, and found a home to worship wherever he went.
Ed was welcoming, kind, and full of life. He was devoted to his family, and proved this with his immense courage to start over in the United States for the sake of their future. Because of this courage, his children have had the ability to lead comfortable lives. While his family will miss him and his one of a kind jokes, his passion for life and the Lord will live on through them. The many people who loved Ed should find comfort in knowing that he is with the Lord, who he knew would always be good to him.
Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News assisted the family with their arrangements.
