Edward R. Cockrell, Jr. of Hampton was called home to be with his heavenly father on May 8th, 2010 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Heaven will be a happier place due to his presence. Ed was a loving husband, father and a dedicated tractor trailer driver for Gwaltney of Smithfield.
He is survived by his wife Dianne, his mother Anne Evans of West Va., two sisters Marsha & husband John Wright of Idaho and Bonnie & husband Bill Denney of Hampton; three daughters, Angela & husband Calvin Hale of Illinois, Crissy & husband Richard Zehr of West Va., Tammy Cockrell of California; three sons, Terry Rhodes of Oakwood, Va., David Rhodes & wife Christine of West Va., Edward Cockrell & wife Kelly of Tennessee, 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service is planned on his birthday, May 29th at Lacrosse Memorial Presbyterian Church at 1515 N. Mallory St. Hampton, Va. at 2pm with Rev. Julie U. Thro officiating.
The family wish to thank Va. Oncology, especially Dr. John Kessler, Kathy Pearson and Heartland Hospice. You were truly Gods Angels.
