Ellen Dinan Goldthwaite, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, in Virginia Beach. Born in the picturesque state of Maine, Ellen carried her New England roots with her throughout her life, spreading warmth and kindness wherever she went.
Together with her late husband, Ellen owned and operated the House of Lighting, a beloved establishment where they illuminated not only spaces but also the lives of their many loyal customers. Her dedication extended to the community as she also volunteered to drive for private schools using her own vehicle, ensuring the safe passage of countless children over the years.
Ellen’s love for the outdoors was evident in her passion for gardening. She found joy and tranquility in cultivating beauty from the earth. Her heart was equally at home on the water, as she enjoyed boating and spending cherished moments by the beach, where the sea breeze carried stories of her adventurous spirit.
She also had a love for the many dogs she had over the years, each one holding a special place in her heart. Her compassion and affection for her canine companions were a testament to her caring nature.
Preceded in death by her devoted husband, two brothers, and a sister, Ellen leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. She is survived by her son, Charles Goldthwaite, his children Chad Goldthwaite and Christina Forgette, as well as several grandchildren who were the light of her life.
In accordance with her wishes, no formal service will be held. Ellen’s family invites those who knew her to celebrate her life in their own personal ways, honoring her memory with acts of kindness and moments of reflection by the shore she so dearly loved. May she rest in peace, reunited with those who have gone before her.
