Elroy Strickland, age 97, of Williamsburg, VA passed away in his sleep, Wednesday, March 16, 2026 of natural causes. Born October 14, 1928 in Newark, NJ, he was the eldest of 3 children to Elroy and Eula-Jean Strickland. He was a resident of Murrysville, PA for 48 years until moving to Williamsburg, VA in 2018.
Roy was an Air Force veteran. Following his military service, Roy graduated from Georgia Tech and then got his law degree from American University. Roy ultimately became a patent attorney and worked for Alcoa in that capacity until retirement. During retirement years, he and his wife Marie, enjoyed traveling while doing numerous missionary projects throughout the United States and Mexico. Roy was a devout Christian, spending over 40 years as a member of Murrysville Community Church in PA that he started in his home. After moving to Williamsburg, he attended Deer Park Fellowship Church in Newport News VA until his passing.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Marie (Hallman) Strickland, and sister Dolores Ellis. He is survived by his brother, John Strickland, of Towaco, NJ; his children, Oleta Lambert, of Toano, VA, Laura Davidson, of Williamsburg, VA, Erica DeLattre, of Portersville, PA, his grandchildren Wesley Sales, of Seattle, WA, Brielin Brown, of Haddon Heights, NJ, Rhiannon Stiffler, of Apollo, PA, Brayden Tomlinson, of Newport News, VA, and Aleksander DeLattre, of Slovan, PA. His great grandchildren Henry, Owen, and Ames (Elroy) Tomlinson, of Newport News, VA, Bristol and Caleb Stiffler, of Apollo, PA.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Deer Park Fellowship Church, 826 J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Newport News, VA 23601.
