Elsie Combs Byrd
August 26, 1928 - August 6, 2020

Elsie Combs Byrd, 91, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020. Born in Kentucky, to the late Vernon and Millie (Allen) Combs, she moved to Newport News at the age of 16. Elsie loved to dance, listen to Bluegrass music and work in the yard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Byrd and son, Eugene.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Darlene Byrd and Imogene Kelly; sister, Opsy Mullins and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members.

Elsie will be missed by all.

Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News assisted the family with arrangements.

So very sorry to learn of Elsie's death. We first met in rehab after my hip replacement and her knee replacement in 2002. Have enjoyed seeing her over the years at Bluegrass music in different locations, most recently at Temple Baptist Church. So sorry for your loss, girls and family. I will miss seeing her.
