Emma Celestine Stewart, age 93, passed away peacefully November 6, 2022, peacefully at home. She was born March 12, 1929, in Hampton, Va., to Walter McCoy and Mable McCoy.
Emma is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Holland McCoy and Walter McCoy, Jr.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Walter Stewart; sons, Keith Stewart (Lani) and Darrell Stewart; granddaughters, Kourtney Johnson and Alyssa Stewart and great-grandson, Daemon Richardson. She was also loved by her extended family.
Emma was a dedicated Hampton City School employee for over 20 years. She graduated from George P. Phenix High School in 1947, then graduated from Cortez Peters Business College in Washington, DC. She journeyed to New York City to begin her career where she was hired by a jewelry firm to establish their accounting practices. She returned to Hampton, Va. where she worked for Hampton Institute and the federal government at Fort Monroe.
Emma enjoyed sewing, reading, calligraphy, and walking with her friends around the local track.
Memorial services will be conducted on Monday, November 28, 2022, at 3 p.m. at Albert G Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va.
Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News assisted the family with arrangements.
