Emmett S. Melcher, 75, peacefully passed away on Monday July 2, 2018 in Sentara General Hospital in Virginia Beach. He had bravely confronted and fought cancer. He was born on December 27, 1942 in Washington D.C. to Albert and Gelene Melcher. He attended and played football at the University of Maryland. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles for two seasons. In subsequent years he established a career working as an executive for a moving company in New York City.
He is survived by his wife Mary L. Dameron; his brother Albert ‘Mickey’ Melcher; his ex-wife Jean Boyd; his daughters from his first marriage, Kimberly Parker (Glenn Parker), Dawn Bartizal (Ken Bartizal) and Shane Goldberg (David Goldberg); his grandchildren Chris, Ryan, Max, Logan, Eric, Chris and Angie; his Aunt Betsy Ringold, and his cousins John Thompson, Laura Williams, Jo Debser, Wendel Ligon, George Ligon, Rachel Bradley, Lucy Hefflefinger ; his sister-in-law Ida Hill; his brother-in-law Timothy Yerby and his nieces LeNaya Hezel, Ashley Yerby, Brianna Yerby, Connie Shillman and Elizabeth Melcher. A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life. The date and time of this service has not been determined at this time. Donations may be made in Emmett’s name to the American Cancer Society.
