CDR. Ernest M. Fudala, USN (Ret.) a dedicated and compassionate individual, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, in Virginia Beach, VA. Born in Buffalo, NY, Ernest led a life marked by service, commitment, and care for others.
Ernest proudly served his country for 22 years in the United States Navy, retiring with the distinguished rank of Commander. His sense of duty and leadership were hallmarks of his military career. Following his retirement from the Navy, Ernest pursued his passion for helping others by becoming a social worker. His dedication to aiding those in need reflected his deep-seated desire to make a positive impact on the world around him.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Ernest had a variety of interests that brought joy to his life. He had a fervent interest in acting, which he pursued with enthusiasm. His love for nature was evident in his gardening and bird watching, activities that provided him with great peace and satisfaction.
Ernest was a loving father, deeply committed to his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Suzanne Fudala, and their sons, Matthew and John Fudala. He was the youngest of six children, and his parents preceded him in death. His family and friends remember him as a man of integrity, warmth, and unwavering kindness.
Ernest’s educational achievements include graduating from Riverside High School in Buffalo, NY, attending State University in Buffalo, NY, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Education, another Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Old Dominion University, and completing his Master’s in Social Work at Norfolk State University.
A service to honor and celebrate Ernest’s life will be held at Church of the Ascension on October 3,2024 at 11:00 with reception to follow. Please arrive by 10:30 in preparation for his mass. His legacy of service and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew him.
