Evelyn Hester Watts, a devoted mother, grandmother and beloved sister lost her struggle against cancer and passed away on Monday, 6 June 2016. Evelyn was born in Baltimore, Maryland on 11 June 1952, and resided in Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Elizabeth City. Evelyn’s career choice and passion was to become a teacher, with her calling being a teacher of special education students. Her performance of excellence as a teacher spanned over 40 years and included assignments at Southeastern Virginia Training Center, Bayside High School, Pasquotank County High School, and Princess Anne High School. Her compassion and advocacy for her students was legendary, resulting in numerous awards and citations of excellence. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Jessica Ann Hutchinson, son-in- law Kevin Hutchinson, granddaughter Katie Rae, her brother John S. Hester III and his wife Linda and their children Jenifer, Laura, and Nathan, her great nephew Jaxon, and her best friends Eric, Heather, Beth, Eric III, and Hunter. Evelyn is preceded in death by her father John S. Hester Jr, mother Julia, and sister Nadia. A Mass of celebration will be held Monday, June 13, 2016 at 1:00pm at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5361 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach. There will a small reception at the Church following the Mass.
